Why Spring is So Special

By Nancy Cozart

The First Day of Spring

Sunday, March 20, 2022 marks the vernal equinox and the first day of Spring! Why is the season of Spring so special? Days get longer, grass gets greener, weather gets warmer, flowers begin to bloom, trees begin to bud, animal babies are born, butterflies emerge from their cocoons, bears wake up from their hibernation…and so much more!

The Beauty of Spring

During Spring, many flowers begin to bloom, including Crocuses, Daffodils, Tulips, Daylilies, Roses and more. If you plan a visit to your nearest Botanical Gardens, you will be able to see a wide variety of flowers in bloom during the Spring season.

Grass Gets Greener

Spring is the season when grass gets greener and trees start to bud. Magnolia trees begin to bloom. Bradford Pear trees bloom in the Spring, too. Maple trees begin to bud. Dogwood trees become colorful, as well.

Animal Babies are Born

During the Spring, many animals give birth and animal babies are born. Chickens lay eggs and baby chicks are born. Baby lambs are born, too. Baby birds hatch from eggs. Birds begin to sing and you can sometimes hear a cheerful chirping symphony in your back yard. Cows give birth to baby calves. Horses give birth to baby fouls. Pigs give birth to baby piglets.

Butterflies Emerge and Take Flight

During the Spring, caterpillars emerge from cocoons and butterflies take flight. Colorful butterflies of all shapes, colors and sizes can be seen. Plan a visit to a butterfly house and check out all the beautiful butterflies this Spring.

Weather Gets Warmer

During the spring season, the weather gets warmer. If you have been staying indoors during the winter, springtime is the perfect season to take a walk in the park. If you enjoy hiking, springtime is the perfect season to plan some hiking excursions.

The Season of Love

During the Spring, the weather is perfect for outdoors weddings. April showers bring May flowers, so May is a popular time for weddings. June is an ideal time to get married, and June is a popular month for weddings, as well.

Spring is Perfect for Picnics in the Park

Spring is the perfect time to plan a picnic in the park! Pack a picnic lunch, visit a local park, and spread a blanket or find a picnic table. Enjoy the beautiful scenery while eating your lunch! After lunch, take a stroll in the park and enjoy the green grass, flowering trees and flowers. Spring is the season for getting outside and enjoying the great outdoors.

Springtime Sports

If you are a sports fan, spring is the perfect season to watch a baseball game and cheer on your favorite team. If you enjoy tennis, spring is the perfect season to play tennis. Golfers will enjoy getting outdoors and playing 18 holes of golf. If you enjoy volleyball, consider joining an outdoors volleyball league. If you enjoy hiking, walking or bike riding, spring is the perfect season to get some exercise outdoors. There are so many sports to enjoy outdoors and there is no better time than the present to begin a new exercise routine!

Spring is a Special Season

Spring is a special season, because as winter ends and spring begins, it’s the perfect opportunity to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather.

If you have a dog, make sure to take your dog for walks in your neighborhood. Visit local parks and explore nature trails in your area.

If you enjoy gardening, spring is the perfect time to do some gardening in your yard. Consider planting vegetables in your garden and enjoy colorful homegrown vegetables such as carrots, tomatoes, zucchini and more.

This spring, make plans to visit some local wineries and sample some local wines. Plan a drive to the countryside and have a picnic in the park. For a change of pace, consider taking your kids or grandkids to the park and play with frisbees at the park.

Visit local tourist attractions and explore new sites this spring. Listen to live music at an outdoors cafe or winery when the weather is nice. Visit an outdoors farmers market or a flea market and enjoy shopping for fresh produce or antique treasures.

Plan a trip to the zoo this spring and check out the new baby animals at the zoo. Bears are emerging from hibernation, so make sure to look for the bears.

Spring is the perfect season to get outdoors, partake in some spring activities and explore the many splendors of spring!

  1. I love all the pictures you shared. I live in the Southwest and I do miss all that beautiful green and all the flowers, Spring is quite short here however I do get to enjoy the birth of quite a few baby birds and their parents taking them on flying lessons. Yes, birds take flying lessons and it is the most magical thing to see.

  2. I love spring just seeing all the new growth and baby animals running about (living in a rural area). Your photos are beautiful. I do like both the shoulder seasons the best so even autumn (fall) for me is special…
